RFID Support for CS Asset Tracking

As part of Cormant’s continued commitment to improving and increasing the functionality in CableSolve, Cormant is announcing that from Q4 2010 support will be added to CableSolve to read RFID tags.
Initially this support will be for the Symbol/Motorola MC9090-G RFID and MC3090-Z RFID reader equipped mobile computers. This continues Cormant’s support for the Symbol/Motorola range of Windows Mobile equipped mobile computers. These products tend to have global availability and compliment the availability of CableSolve. RFID has been a feature requested by a number of current and prospective customers and Cormant are excited to add this support. RFID support is a natural progression to barcode support.
While initial support for RFID reading devices will be limited to Symbol/Motorola products Cormant expect to expand this support as required in consultation with customers and partners as understanding is gained on preferred products and solutions.

We recommend any customer considering an RFID deployment consider tag types available, read range and discrimination options. Using the analogy of the supermarket checkout, Cormant believe that for the majority of applications barcodes will continue to provide the best combination of price and performance. Some models in the Symbol/Motorola range support both RFID and barcode reading within a single device.

Where CableSolve maybe used within a wider deployment of RFID technology the open, published CableSolve Web Services XML API provides an effective read/write interface between CableSolve and other systems. Cormant can consult on specific implementations as required.
