DCIM was one of the most prolific topics of this year’s event (and I’m not just saying that because I’m biased). The 2-hour DCIM panel consisting of end-users, consultants, and vendors, moderated by Cormant CEO, Paul Goodison, was one of the most well-attended sessions outside of the keynote. Visit the @CormantCS Twitter feed to review live quotes and informative tips about DCIM from this well-rounded panel of speakers. Here’s my list of the top 5 points that were expressed during the panel:

5. Power optimization is an easy way to track savings from DCIM to see a positive ROI, but keep in mind that savings come in many other forms. Refer to the Top 3 Ways to Save Money with DCIM for some of these other savings from DCIM.

4. Prioritize your DCIM needs by your use-case scenarios or how you’ll ultimately use DCIM in your organization. Similar to the journey approach, tackle the first few needs in the beginning, then continue use of the software by progressively solving new sets of needs and requirements.

3. DCIM is a journey that keeps evolving over time. (If you’re planning a DCIM project, be sure to formulate that plan by learning the DCIM journey steps in an easy-to-read infographic or a more detailed blog post).

2. A successful DCIM implementation occurs only when it is given the attention it requires. Software doesn’t implement itself and there are many moving parts. You will only get out of it what you put into it!

1. Process improvements can be one of the biggest benefits of using DCIM, but it can also be one of the toughest to get right internally. With DCIM, some processes will need to be updated, changed, or replaced. Organizations need to recognize this and be ready to facilitate this change. With proper facilitation, huge benefits can follow.
